Tear Troughs are our under eye hollows, which tend to cause a groove underneath our eyes. They can be genetic (more common in Asian ethnicities) but also become deeper as we age. Early ageing can start to occur in our tear troughs from our mid 20’s. This means our hollows can deepen, causing a darker shadow and giving rise to ‘dark circles’. This can make our eyes look more sunken and tired looking.

By carefully placing dermal filler (injectable hyaluronic acid) into this area of hollowness, we can restore volume, reduce hollowing and give rise to a brighter and more rejuvenated under eye.

This treatment is often combined with midface filler to give a seamless transition between our lower eyelid and cheek.

Duration & Longevity

The appointment takes around 45 minutes, with the actual procedure taking only around 15 minutes.

The results from the filler are instant, and generally last around 9-12months. Each time you have this done, the results will last longer as long as the initial scaffold of filler is still in place.

Procedure

It can be a bit uncomfortable however we numb the skin prior to the treatment with numbing cream.

We also do not use needles in this delicate area, to reduce swelling/pain and also to be safe and minimize complications. Instead we use a micro-cannula to deposit the filler. This is blunt ended and uses only a single entry point on both sides, thereby reducing trauma and minimizing risk.

The result can be seen instantly, but tends to improve over the next 3-4 weeks post treatment.

Downtime

Downtime with filler in this area is generally very minimal and makeup can be applied the next day.

Tenderness and mild swelling is expected for a few days as well as potential for mild bruising in some cases. We provide pre and after care instructions to go through ways we can further minimise this.
